Keynote to PowerPoint: crossing the ecosystem

Keynote files are bundles of Apple’s own format, and the conversion has to map its objects onto PowerPoint equivalents. Much carries over; the losses are specific. Keynote’s Magic Move has no PowerPoint counterpart, Apple’s bundled fonts are not installed on Windows and get substituted, and precise text positioning shifts when the substitute font has different metrics.

Convert when the deck has to be opened or edited by someone on Windows. If it only needs to be viewed, export to PDF instead: it preserves the layout exactly, which PPTX will not.
