How to Convert WAV Files Online — Free & Instant
Convert uncompressed WAV audio to smaller, compressed formats without audible quality loss.
Drag and drop WAV files from recording studios, DAWs, CD rips, or Windows Sound Recorder. PCM 16-bit and 24-bit WAV at any sample rate (44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 96 kHz) are fully supported.
Choose FLAC to reduce file size by 50-70% with zero quality loss, MP3 at 320 kbps for universal device playback, AAC for Apple ecosystem, or OGG for open-source platforms. Sample rate and bit depth are preserved for lossless targets.
Download your compressed audio — a 50 MB WAV typically becomes 5 MB as MP3 or 25 MB as FLAC. Studio quality is maintained for lossless conversions. Files are auto-deleted within 24 hours.
Audio Format Comparison
Choose the right output format when converting WAV audio files.
| Format | Quality | File Size | Compatibility | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MP3 | Lossy | Small | Universal | Music, podcasts, everyday playback |
| AAC | Lossy | Small | Apple, most devices | iPhone, iTunes, streaming |
| FLAC | Lossless | Large | Most players | Archiving, audiophile quality |
| WAV | Lossless | Very large | Universal | Audio editing, professional use |
| OGG | Lossy | Small | Web, Linux, games | Open-source apps, web audio |
| M4A | Lossy (AAC) | Small | Apple, most players | iTunes, Apple Music library |
Why Convert WAV Audio?
A 3-minute WAV is about 30 MB. Convert to FLAC for 50% compression with zero quality loss, or to MP3 at 320 kbps for a 3 MB file that sounds nearly identical to most listeners.
WAV files are too large for email, messaging apps, and music streaming. Convert WAV to MP3 or AAC for files small enough to email, share via WhatsApp, or upload to SoundCloud and Spotify.
FLAC compresses WAV to half its size while preserving every single audio sample bit-for-bit. Convert WAV to FLAC for lossless archival that saves storage without any compromise in quality.
Convert WAV to ALAC (M4A) for lossless playback in Apple Music and iTunes. ALAC offers the same quality as WAV at roughly half the file size, with full Apple device support.
Many portable players and car stereos have limited storage and do not handle large WAV files well. Convert to MP3 or AAC for compact files that play on every portable audio device.
Convert WAV audio directly in your browser — no desktop apps, no plugins. Files up to 10 MB are always free, and files are deleted from our servers within 24 hours.
About the WAV Format
WAV (Waveform Audio File Format) is an audio file format jointly developed by Microsoft and IBM in 1991. It stores raw, uncompressed audio data using Pulse Code Modulation (PCM), preserving the complete audio signal exactly as recorded. WAV is the standard working format used in professional recording studios and digital audio workstations such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, and Ableton Live.
Because WAV files contain uncompressed audio, they are very large — approximately 10 MB per minute of stereo audio at CD quality (44.1 kHz, 16-bit). This makes WAV impractical for distribution or streaming, but ideal for recording, editing, and mastering where no quality compromise is acceptable. WAV files are universally supported across all platforms and audio software, making them the most reliable format for professional audio work.
