About the EPS Format
EPS, Encapsulated PostScript, is a PostScript program with enough extra structure that other documents can embed it. For decades it was how vector logos and illustrations moved between design applications and into print, and it can hold vector artwork, raster images, or a mixture of both.
Adobe deprecated EPS some time ago in favour of PDF, which does everything EPS does and handles transparency and colour management properly, EPS has no real transparency model, which is why effects sometimes arrive flattened or wrong. Printers still accept it, but it is a legacy choice. Converting to SVG suits web use and keeps vectors editable; PDF is the natural modern replacement; PNG or JPG give a raster version when a vector file is simply not accepted.
