About the 3GA Format
3GA is the audio-only member of the 3GPP family, the format Samsung phones in particular used for voice recordings and ringtones. Despite the distinct extension, the contents are usually ordinary AAC audio in a 3GPP container, the same codec an M4A file holds.
Because the payload is already AAC, converting a 3GA to M4A or MP4 audio is frequently just a container change and costs nothing in quality. The reason to do it is support: many music players, editors and websites do not recognise the .3ga extension and refuse the file without ever examining what is inside. Converting to MP3 guarantees playback anywhere, though that step does re-encode and should be done from the original rather than from another lossy copy.
