About the F4V Format
F4V is the MP4-based container Adobe introduced to replace FLV for Flash video, carrying H.264 video and AAC audio rather than the older Sorenson and VP6 codecs. It was the format behind a great deal of web video in the late 2000s.
Flash itself reached end of life at the end of 2020 and browsers removed the plugin entirely, so F4V lost its reason to exist. The useful detail is that the streams inside are usually already H.264 and AAC, the same codecs MP4 uses, so conversion to MP4 is often a container change rather than a re-encode. That makes it quick and lossless, and it turns an unplayable file into one every browser, phone and editor handles natively.
