Reasons to convert MXF files
MXF is a professional wrapper that consumer devices and web platforms cannot play. Convert to MP4 to share rushes and proxies with clients and collaborators.

MXF often carries multiple discrete audio tracks. Convert to MKV to keep all channels from multi-mic and multi-language shoots intact.
Professional MXF masters are large. Convert to compact MP4 proxies for review, dailies, and cloud sharing without moving terabytes.
Move footage off proprietary broadcast wrappers into widely-supported MP4 or MOV for long-term, future-proof storage.
Convert MXF video online, no desktop apps, no plugins. Files up to 100 MB are always free, and all videos are deleted from our servers within 1 hour.
About the MXF Format
MXF, the Material Exchange Format, is a SMPTE-standardised container built for professional video production. Broadcast cameras from Sony, Panasonic and Canon write it, and it is designed to carry video, multiple audio tracks and extensive timecode and production metadata in one wrapper that survives being passed between facilities.
MXF is a wrapper rather than a codec, so two MXF files can contain entirely different things, XDCAM, DNxHD, AVC-Intra and others all live inside it. That flexibility is why consumer software so often fails to open it, and why the files are large. Converting to MP4 produces something you can review, share or upload without professional tools. Keep the MXF originals for editing: they hold the metadata and audio track layout that a flattened MP4 discards.
