Morocco's Timezone System Explained
Morocco uses West Europe Time (WET/UTC+0) as its standard time and West Europe Summer Time (WEST/UTC+1) for a large portion of the year. However, during Ramadan, Morocco reverts to UTC+0 regardless of the DST schedule — creating an annual temporary one-hour clock shift during the holy month.
Outside Ramadan, Morocco is on UTC+1 from the last Sunday of March to the last Sunday of October (matching European BST/CEST), then returns to UTC+0. During Ramadan, clocks go back one hour for the duration of the Islamic month, then spring forward again after Eid al-Fitr.
Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech, Fez, and Tangier all follow this schedule. Morocco's timezone is unique in being the only country where DST is suspended during a religious observance.
Key standard time differences from Casablanca (UTC+0): same as London (GMT). Paris is 1 hour ahead. New York (EST) is 5 hours behind. Dubai is 4 hours ahead.
