Turkey's Timezone System Explained

Turkey uses Turkey Time (TRT, UTC+3) year-round. Turkey permanently moved to UTC+3 in September 2016, abolishing daylight saving time. Clocks no longer change in Turkey — TRT is fixed in all seasons.

Before 2016, Turkey observed EEST (UTC+3) only in summer, returning to EET (UTC+2) in winter. Now the country stays on what was previously summer time permanently — meaning Turkey is now 2 hours ahead of the UK in winter (when the UK is on GMT), and 2 hours ahead even in summer (when the UK moves to BST, UTC+1).

Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and all Turkish cities use TRT. Turkey shares its UTC+3 offset with Moscow, Nairobi, and parts of East Africa.

Key differences from Istanbul (TRT): London is 3 hours behind in winter, 2 hours behind during BST. New York (EST) is 8 hours behind. Dubai (GST) is 1 hour ahead. Moscow (MSK) shares the same UTC+3.
