US vs UK gallon — the 20% gotcha
US gallon = 3.785 L. UK (imperial) gallon = 4.546 L. That 20% gap matters: a 15 L jerry can is 3.96 US gallons but 3.30 UK gallons. Automotive fuel economy: 40 mpg (US) = 47 mpg (UK) for the same actual efficiency. Automotive fluid capacities (engine oil, coolant) usually ship in litres on both spec sheets to avoid this ambiguity. This converter defaults to US gallons unless you pick the UK variant explicitly.
