About Camera Raw Files
"Raw" is a category rather than one format. Every camera maker writes its own: Canon produces CR2 and CR3, Nikon NEF, Sony ARW, Panasonic RW2, Fujifilm RAF. What they share is the principle, the file holds the sensor readout before demosaicing, white balance and sharpening, so those decisions stay editable instead of being fixed at the moment of capture.
That flexibility is exactly why raw files are awkward to share. They are large, they need software that understands your specific camera, and most websites and messaging apps reject them outright. Converting to JPEG produces something anyone can open at a fraction of the size; TIFF is the better choice when you need 16-bit depth for print; DNG keeps the raw latitude while standardising the container. Keep your originals, a JPEG cannot be turned back into a raw file.
